The Buffalo Bills have announced that Damar Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest on the field last week, will soon be returning home after being discharged from hospital.
The 24-year-old safety collapsed during the Bills' NFL clash with the Cincinnati Bengals at the Paycor Stadium last Monday after making a tackle on Tee Higgins.
After briefly rising to his feet, Hamlin fell down onto the turf in front of shocked players and onlookers, as medical personnel rushed to his aid and restored his heartbeat on the field.
Hamlin was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition, where he showed "remarkable" signs of improvement and was released on Monday.
The former Pittsburgh Panthers college representative returned to New York to undergo further tests at Buffalo General Medical Center, and he has since undergone "comprehensive" tests.
A statement from the Bills on Wednesday revealed that Hamlin had been safely discharged from hospital and would be continuing his rehabilitation at home.
"Damar Hamlin has been discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, a Kaleida Health facility in Buffalo, NY," the Bills said on social media.
"Hamlin was admitted on Monday and went through a comprehensive medical evaluation as well as a series of cardiac, neurological and vascular testing on Tuesday.
"Jamie Nadler, MD, critical care physician and Chief Quality Officer at Kaleida Health, and the care team lead for Hamlin said, 'We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills.'"
