The Detroit Lions have confirmed the departure of offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi on a day when two other coaches were fired.
It was revealed that Lombardi had been let go by the team on Monday, while the announcement also revealed that offensive line coaches Jeremiah Washburn and Terry Heffernan had both lost their jobs in a reshuffle of Jim Caldwell's staff.
Quarterbacks coach Jim Bob Cooter has been promoted to offensive coordinator ahead of Sunday's meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs in London.
"It's not a good day," Caldwell, whose side are 1-6 this season, told reporters. "It's a tough day."
In other changes to the coaching staff, running backs coach Curtis Modkins is the new running game coordinator, Ron Prince will take over as offensive line coach and Devin Fitzsimmons becomes the new tight ends coach.
