The Detroit Lions produced superb performances in the third and fourth quarters to win their NFL game against the Minnesota Vikings 34-24.

The Vikings took the lead in the first quarter following a brilliant 78-yard run from last year's MVP Adrian Peterson, with Bradley Walsh following up with a kick to make it 7-0.

The Lions notched their first score soon after when David Akers produced a 33-yard field goal to bring the scores to 7-3.

In the second quarter the Lions continued to make progress towards reducing the deficit as Akers delivered another field goal, this one coming from 42 yards to take Detroit's score to six points.

However, the Vikings soon increased their advantage with another touchdown from Peterson as he completed a four-yard run, with Walsh adding an extra point with the kick and making the scores 14-6.

The Lions then hit back to put themselves within touching distance of their opponents on the stroke of half time, as a two-yard run from Joique Bell followed by an Akers kick left the scores at 14-13.

The third quarter proved to be a high-scoring affair with touchdowns coming from the Lion's Reggie Bush and Bell, before Walsh struck back for the Vikings with a 52-yard field goal.

Bush popped up again to deliver another touchdown for the Lions soon after, having collected a 77-yard pass from Matthew Stafford. Although the quarter's action was not over yet, as Petersen provided a late touchdown for the Vikings to keep them well in the game with the scores showing 27-24 at the end of the quarter.

The final quarter was all set up for a headline comeback, but instead the Lions pushed on to cement their lead with Joseph Fauria completing a yard pass from Stafford, before Akers kicked another field goal to leave the final scores at 34-24.
