New York Jets running back Chris Johnson says that he should be the team's first choice rusher during the upcoming campaign.

New York Jets running back Chris Johnson has admitted that he expects to be the team's first-choice rusher next season.

Johnson arrived from the Tennessee Titans during the off-season to compete with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell in the Jets' backfield, with running backs coach Anthony Lynn saying that team must be "strategic" in the way that they use their options.

However, the 29-year-old seems disinterested in sharing the ball with his teammates, instead hoping to build on his 1,742 career carries so far.

He told NFL: Around The League: "Once the season starts and once we're playing and I'm doing my thing, I'm pretty sure if I'm making plays they're going to want to keep handing the ball off to me.

"If they want me to continue making plays, I'm pretty sure I can't do that if I'm on the sideline. I want to do the best thing to help the team. That's coming out here and making big plays week after week after week.

"As for the ball share and all that, it won't be an issue I'm pretty sure. At the end of the day, if I continue to play like I've been playing, they're going to keep handing the ball off to me."

Johnson rushed for just short of 8,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his six years with the Titans.
