Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden admits that he is pleased with what he has seen from Robert Griffin III over the course of the off-season.

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has revealed that he is pleased with the progress quarterback Robert Griffin III is making in pre-season.

The 25-year-old put in a solid display in his brief time on the field for the Redskins in their win over the Cleveland Browns after struggling immensely for form in the 2014 season.

Gruden has admitted that he saw a lot of positives from Griffin, but has insisted that he still has a lot of work to do before the start of the regular season.

He told reporters: "I see some negative articles here and there on our quarterbacks, but Robert was (4-for-8) with a 60-yard touchdown that was dropped. He had a big third-down conversion. He missed the fade route to Pierre [Garcon]. He threw it out of bounds - was a little bit adrenaline-rushed.

"Of course, he missed the [third-and-5] throw to [Evan] Spencer, whose route was a little bit short. But overall I think managing the game, the position, getting the plays out; we didn't have one penalty on offense, which was exciting.

"He threw [eight] balls. So we still have a long way to go to grade him but we're happy with his progress."

The Redskins face the Miami Dolphins in their season opener on September 13.
