England's Martyn Rooney eyeing relay redemption

:Headline: England's Martyn Rooney eyeing relay redemption: ID:168713: from db_amp
England's Martyn Rooney expresses an ambition to "put things right" in the 4x100m relay after losing his 400m final on Wednesday.

England sprinter Martyn Rooney has targeted redemption in tonight's 4x100m relay after missing out on a podium finish in the 400m final at the Commonwealth Games.

The 27-year-old finished fourth in Wednesday's event behind Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad and Tobago, Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa and Grenada's Kirani James - who set a Games record en route to the gold.

Rooney will be competing at the European Championships in less than two weeks, and the Croydon local is hopeful that he can head into the tournament after 'putting things right' in Glasgow.

"I'm going to switch focus to the relay because I think we've got a really good medal chance," he told reporters.

"It's a busy summer which is a good thing because there is a chance to put things right just around the corner."

The first heat of the 4x100m relay begins tonight at 7.10pm.
