James returned after a 17-game absence.

LeBron James finished just shy of a triple-double on his return from injury as he helped the Lakers overcome the Clippers 123-120 in overtime in the Los Angeles derby.

The Lakers held a 112-105 lead with 1:57 left on the clock with a Tobias Harris three point jumper drawing the sides level at the Staples Centre.

James – who finished with 24 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists – had a driving layup blocked in the dying seconds of the game, his first since December following a groin injury.

He added four in overtime as the Lakers condemned the Clippers to their second straight defeat.

The high-flying Golden State Warriors were brought down to earth as their 11-game winning streak came to an end with a 113-104 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Steph Curry put 41 points on the board for Golden State, while Joel Embiid had 26 and 20 rebounds and Ben Simmons added another 26.

Another streak to bite the dust on Thursday night was the Toronto Raptors' run of 10-home victories, with Giannis Antetokounmpo helping the Milwaukee Bucks to a 105-92 win.

The Greek Freak put away 19 points and Khris Middleton added 18 improved 37-13.

Elsewhere, Andre Drummond scored 24 points and had 20 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons beat the Dallas Mavericks 93-89, the Indiana Pacers lost to the Orlando Magic 107-100 and D'Angelo Russell scored 25 but his Brooklyn Nets went down 117-114 to the San Antonio Spurs.
