Team England boxer Charlie Edwards vows to return stronger from defeat in his first bout of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Team England boxer Charlie Edwards has insisted that his "journey is not over" after losing his first bout of the 2014 Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Edwards received a bye into the second round, but he was eliminated in his first match on Sunday by Scotland's Reece McFadden, who had previously beaten Flyweight favourite Andrew Selby in the first round.

Edwards spoke to Sports Mole immediately after the match and insisted that the home crowd did not harm his performance.

"I just took it in my stride. If anything it buzzed me up more. Fair play to the Scottish crowd, they were good. They got behind their boy and that was what I expected," said Edwards.

"It is what it is. We are in Scotland. We are in his backyard."

Edwards also vowed to use the experience in the next stages of his career.

"Yeah of course. I use every experience going forward. My journey is not over. I've got a long career ahead of me and it is a bit of a dubious decision, but that is what I expected," added Edwards.

"I am a good sportsman. Good luck to him. I hope he goes on and wins the gold medal."

McFadden is the hot favourite to claim gold this summer.
