Ricky Burns: 'I won't move to light-welterweight'

British lightweight Ricky Burns insists that he has no plans to move up a weight division to light-welterweight anytime in the near future.

British lightweight Ricky Burns has dismissed suggestions that he should move up a weight division after losing his world title at 135lbs in March.

Burns lost on points to unbeaten American Terence Crawford, but ahead of his return to the ring against Dejan Zlaticanin on Friday evening, the Scot has revealed that he is relishing the chance of some big fights later in his career.

The 31-year-old told Sky Sports News: "A lot of people have said to me are you moving up to light welterweight, but 100%, I am staying at lightweight. There are some huge fights out there for me at the weight, the rematches with Raymundo Beltran and Terence Crawford are big ones, there's Miguel Vasquez and there's some great British fights too.

"I make light-welterweight too easy and I think that if you are making the weight too easy, you are at the wrong weight. That last couple of pounds to get to lightweight is not fun, but I am a lightweight and I'm not going to be moving."

Burns could challenge WBC champion Omar Figueroa should he overcome Zlaticanin in Glasgow.
