Wales boxer Sean McGoldrick discusses his "tough" quarter-final Commonwealth Games clash with South African Ayabonga Sonjica.

Wales boxer Sean McGoldrick has admitted that he found his quarter-final Commonwealth Games clash with Ayabonga Sonjica "tough".

McGoldrick advanced into the semi-finals on points, but the defending champion does not believe that his exploits in Dehli four years ago will have too much of a bearing on his next fight.

"We watched a video of [Sonjica] yesterday and I knew he would just be a nightmare for me. All of his attributes worked to beat my attributes," he told Sports Mole.

"It was difficult, his gameplan was to stay away from me and my gameplan was to try and get to him. It was a tough fight, very tactical, but I feel that I edged it.

"[Delhi] was a great experience, but it won't make much difference against the type of fighters that are left in this competition. I am just focusing on my semi-final."

McGoldrick also revealed that he cannot wait to meet Northern Ireland's Michael Conlan in the semi-finals on Friday.

"It should be a great fight. He is a great fighter. It is what it is. I will leave it all in the ring. I always give 100% and whatever the outcome, he will know that he has been in a fight and I am going to go away as winner."

McGoldrick will take home at least a bronze medal this summer.
