Australia captain Michael Clarke hails the display of his side's bowlers in their nine-wicket win over the West Indies in the first Test in Roseau.

Australia captain Michael Clarke has praised his bowlers for their hard work in securing victory in the first Test against the West Indies.

The Baggy Greens' bowlers skittled Denesh Ramdin's team out for just 148 in the first innings, but were forced to work harder for their wickets in the second innings as Marlon Samuels and Shane Dowrich offered resistance.

However, Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood removed the duo with patient bowling before Mitchell Starc ran through the tail to leave his side with a simple victory target, which they knocked off in five overs.

Clarke told reporters: "I thought West Indies fought exceptionally hard. Credit to our bowlers, they found a way to take wickets on this slow pitch.

"Our bowlers stuck at it and our fielding was really good. The way [David] Warner and [Shaun] Marsh batted, you will see more aggression in Jamaica."

The second Test takes place in Kingston next week.
