England heading towards heavy second Ashes Test defeat against Australia

England are on the way towards suffering a heavy defeat to Australia in the second Ashes Test match after another batting collapse in Adelaide.
Sports Mole

Australia are surging towards a 2-0 lead in the Ashes after ending day three of the second Test with a lead of 282.

England resumed on 17-2, requiring another huge partnership from Dawid Malan and Joe Root, and that is exactly what was delivered as the pair put on 138 for the third wicket.

However, both players, for 80 and 62 respectively, were removed within six overs of each other, and England lost their last eight wickets for 86 runs as they were bowled out for 236.

Only Ben Stokes (34) and Chris Woakes (24) offered any further resistance, with Jos Buttler and Ollie Robinson both out without troubling the scorers.

Mitchell Starc (4-37) and Nathan Lyon (3-58) were the pick of the bowlers, but despite having the option of enforcing the follow-on, Steve Smith sent Australia's batsmen back to the crease.

England had 17 overs to give their supporters some hope ahead of day four and although they were able to run David Warner out for 13, Australia reached 45-1 with minimal fuss before the close of play in Adelaide. body check tags ::
