Ben Stokes: "Everything went my way"

Ben Stokes admits that 'everything went his way' on a record-breaking day for England in Cape Town.

Ben Stokes has revealed that the day's events in Cape Town have yet to 'sink in' after he broke a number of records during the second Test between South Africa and England.

The 24-year-old eventually went out for 258 in 198 balls, including 30 fours and 11 sixes, as he lodged the highest ever Test score by a number six batsman, the fastest 250 in Test history and the most ever sixes in an England Test innings.

"It hasn't quite sunk in yet," Stokes told Sky Sports News. "People say it's just one of those days - and I will say it, it was just one of those days. Everything went my way, balls into the gap and all things like that, but it hasn't quite sunk in yet so I don't know how to explain it!"

Stokes went on to reveal that he operated on "complete instinct" as he registered six after six during the day.

"When I looked at the scoreboard, I thought we were in a good position anyway with the number of runs we had on the scoreboard, especially only being just five wickets down, so I just tried to chance my arm," he explained. "I just thought we were in a good position anyway so I didn't think me swinging one up in the air would have put us in that bad of a position anyway!"

Hashim Amla finished the day unbeaten on 64 to leave the hosts at 141-2 chasing England's declared 629-6 when the action resumes at Newlands on Monday.
