England head coach Trevor Bayliss hints that the selectors will give Adam Lyth another chance to impress in the series against Pakistan.

England head coach Trevor Bayliss has hinted that the selectors will give Adam Lyth another chance to impress in the forthcoming Test series against Pakistan.

The Yorkshire opener endured a tough time in the Ashes series against Australia, scoring 105 from five Test matches at an average of 13.12, while his top score was 37.

Nottinghamshire opener Alex Hales and Middlesex's Sam Robson have been touted as possible replacements for the series in the United Arab Emirates, but Bayliss has suggested that 27-year-old Lyth will be handed a reprieve.

"One of the things is there's no-one out there who's putting their hands up and saying, 'I'm definitely the player to pick'. Now there are a number of good players that have had an okay season but I don't think there's anybody who's made five, six, seven hundreds," Bayliss told The Independent.

"If someone could do that you would be putting them in the team almost straight away, wouldn't you?

"[Lyth] will be spoken about as well. It was a tough season to come in. He played it well against New Zealand, so he can obviously play, and there aren't many better bowling attacks in the world than Australia's during The Ashes."

The first Test match against Pakistan begins on October 15.
