England have recorded a 100-run victory over New Zealand on Friday to secure a 3-1 win in their one-day international series.

Since losing the opener last week, the world champions have responded in emphatic fashion, even when resting Wednesday's match-winner Ben Stokes for the deciding fixture.

Like in the previous matches, Jonny Bairstow (13) and Joe Root (29) were well below their best, but England were able to rely on the hitting of Dawid Malan.

The opener made a magnificent 127 runs from 114 balls - hitting 14 fours and three maximums in the process - and it proved decisive as he was supported by a range of different partners.

Jos Buttler (36), Liam Livingstone (28), Sam Curran (20), David Willey (19) and Brydon Carse (15) all made valuable contributions as England reached 311-9 from their 50 overs.

Rachin Ravindra had been the pick of the Black Caps bowlers, chipping in with 4-60, but that haul failed to put the tourists into a winning position.

Ravindra proved to be New Zealand's highest scorer too - hitting 61 from 48 deliveries - but it came after only one of the top order had scored more than 25.

Henry Nicholls was that player with 41, although he was one of four victims of Moeen Ali who, after scoring just three with the bat, recorded figures of 4-50.

While New Zealand were not helped by injuries to Ben Lister and Tim Southee, England were deserved winners as they bowled their opponents out for 211 with 70 balls remaining. body check tags ::
