England are on the verge of their seventh Test defeat of the year as India closed in on a series-clinching victory on day four of the fourth Test in Mumbai.
From 307-6 on Saturday afternoon, India romped to 631 all out as skipper Virat Kohli claimed a double century.
The 28-year-old's 235 and 104 from number nine Jayant Yadav helped India amass a commanding lead of 231 runs before finally being bowled out.
The tourists ended up being reduced to 49-3 before tea at the Wankhede Stadium, and the possibility of India winning with a day to spare seemed likely.
However, Joe Root (77) and Jonny Bairstow (50no) hit half-centuries to deny the hosts, putting on 92 runs for the fourth wicket.
There was still worse to come for England though as Root, Ben Stokes and night-watchman Jake Ball all fell before the close.
Kohli's tally is the biggest score by an Indian batsman against England and the highest by an Indian skipper.
