James Vince and Mark Stoneman's 123-run partnership helps England take control on the third day of the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch.

James Vince and Mark Stoneman posted half-centuries to help England build a healthy lead against New Zealand on day three of the second Test in Christchurch.

The pair put on 123 for the second wicket before both being dismissed in the final session as the tourists reached 202-3 at close of play.

Alastair Cook fell cheaply for 14 but Vince's 76 and Stoneman's personal best of 60 kept the New Zealand bowling attack at bay.

Both players eventually fell in the evening session before bad light ended play with England on a lead of 231.

Earlier in the day, the hosts were bowled out for 278 in the morning session to give England a slim first-innings lead of 29.

Stuart Broad produced one of his best Test bowling performances of recent times as he finished with 6-54, while James Anderson continued his strong winter with 4-76.

Joe Root (30*) and Dawid Malan (19*) will look to build on the tourists' lead when play resumes at 11.30pm on Sunday.
