Cook retired from international cricket in September.

Sir Alastair Cook will be part of BBC Radio 5 Live's reporting team for England's tour of the West Indies.

Former England captain Cook, who was knighted in the New Year Honours, retired from international cricket in September and memorably signed off with a century against India at the Oval.

The 34-year-old, his country's highest Test run scorer, is set to join the reporting team for the second and third Tests of the tour, which start on January 31 and February 9 respectively. The first Test starts on January 23 in Barbados.

Cook said on Monday: "I'm really looking forward to joining the BBC in the Caribbean and having Jonathan Agnew as my new team-mate.

"This England Test side played some great cricket in Sri Lanka and it will be fascinating to see how they get on in the West Indies."

Cook will provide updates and analysis for BBC Radio 5 Live, the BBC Sport website and the Test Match Special podcast, and feature on BBC Sport's online magazine show, The Cricket Social.

Head of BBC Radio and Digital Sport Ben Gallop said: "I'm sure all cricket fans will be as excited as we are to hear Sir Alastair's expert take on the action in the West Indies.

"This promises to be a brilliant year of cricket, so it's great for us to be able to welcome England's record Test run scorer and newest cricketing knight to the BBC team for the Caribbean."

Four-time Ashes winner Cook scored 33 centuries and a total of 12,472 runs in 161 Tests, with each of those statistics standing as England records. He is the fifth-highest Test run scorer of all time.
