Pakistan recover from an early wicket by reaching lunch on 229-4, extending their lead over England to 157 runs in the third and final Test in Sharjah.

Pakistan have managed to recover after losing Rahat Ali to move past 200 and extend their lead to 157 runs in the third and final Test against England in Sharjah.

Mohammad Hafeez (145*) and Misbah-ul-Haq (31*) helped Pakistan finish the morning session on 229-4, but they survived some early scares.

Before the first wicket was taken, England appealed an lbw in the first ball of the day when Adil Rashid's delivery hit Hafeez's front pad, but umpire Chris Gaffaney denied the call.

England reviewed the decision, but hawk-eye showed that the ball had pitched outside leg stump, allowing Pakistan to breathe.

Trevor Bayliss's side came close again two balls later when Hafeez failed to tackle Rashid's googly, but Jonny Bairstow missed it completely as he failed to get a glove on the ball and hit the stumps.

The breakthrough finally came when James Anderson bowled out Rahat Ali for a duck with a reverse ball, giving England some momentum, but they were unable to make the most of it.

Hafeez eventually pulled up his ninth Test hundred and Misbah-ul-Haq took Pakistan's run tally past 200 with a thumping six at long-on.

Pakistan have a 1-0 lead in the series.
