Sir Chris Hoy says that Glasgow 2014 will be the "best Commonwealth Games we've ever seen".

Six-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy has said that Glasgow 2014 will be "the biggest and best Commonwealth Games ever".

Hoy, who is ambassador for the Games, has said that the people of Glasgow have carried forward the energy and enthusiasm of the 2012 London Olympics and he is expecting a similar atmosphere to that of two years ago.

"I went to three Commonwealths, but this will blow them out of the water," Hoy told BBC Sport. "That spirit and celebration of London is still there from the Games.

"There's definitely still an afterglow from London. People are crying out for another multi-sports Games to enjoy and to celebrate. Glasgow's going to take that and it's going to be spectacular.

"People will get behind it in the same way. It's a unique event. It's a smaller event in terms of the numbers, but in many ways it can be better for a sports fan. This will be the biggest and best Commonwealth Games we've ever seen."

The 38-year-old retired from cycling last year, despite the opportunity to compete in the velodrome which is named after him.

However, Hoy has said that he has no regrets about retiring so close to the Games.

He said: "I would have loved to have been out there, obviously, but it's about being realistic and thinking with your head. I could see I wasn't going to be at my best."

Hoy has won two gold medals for Scotland. The first came in the 1km time trial in 2002 and he won the second four years later in the team sprint.
