Geraint Thomas has admitted that he does not know whether his participation in the Tour de France will help or hinder his Commonwealth Games medal hopes.
The Team Sky cyclist only finished riding in the famous road race last week and yet will represent Wales in the men's 40km time trial in Glasgow on Thursday.
Thomas is looking forward to wearing the Welsh colours for the first time in eight years, but has conceded that he is unsure what effect the Tour will have had on his condition.
"It will be great to wear the Welsh jersey again," he told BBC Sport. "The last time was in Melbourne in 2006. I feel like I represent Wales wherever I race but to actually wear the jersey is that extra bit special.
"It will be tough in the time trial because riders like Scotland's defending Commonwealth champion David Millar and England's Alex Dowsett have had time to prepare and make sure they are in good form.
"It remains to be seen if the miles I have in my legs will be a help or hindrance. I know it's going to hurt, however I ride. I can ride fast and hurt or go slow and hurt."
Thomas won gold medals in the team pursuit at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
