Double World Championships medallist Jack Laugher says that he is "getting more confident" ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympics next year.

FINA World Championships double bronze medallist Jack Laugher has said that he is "getting more confident" after this evening's performance in the men's 3m springboard final.

Laugher, 20, followed up his bronze in the 3m synchro with another third-place finish in the individual final this evening, becoming the first ever diver from Great Britain to win an individual medal in a springboard event.

The Leeds-based diver is ranked number one in the world at 3m and threatened to take the gold before being edged out by He Chao of China and Ilia Zakharov, the Olympic champion, from Russia.

"It was a rock-solid competition. Everyone was bouncing off each other and you see those mad scores like we've had today," Laugher told British Swimming.

"The past year and a half has been absolutely fantastic. I got a bronze at the World Cup in Shanghai, followed by two Commonwealth medals as well, then being overall World Series champion. And a bronze today as well - I'm getting more confident with every competition I do and I'm still young.

"I've learned a lot from this and moving on to Rio, hopefully I can put those experiences and lessons into plan. Hopefully it's going to snowball and make me a better diver and a better competitor."

Tom Daley is the only other British diver to win an individual medal at the World Championships.
