Luca Toni scores from the penalty spot as Hellas Verona come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against AC Milan.

AC Milan have been held to a 1-1 draw by Hellas Verona in their Serie A meeting at San Siro this afternoon.

M'Baye Niang was the first to threaten when he dragged wide from the edge of the box, before Giacomo Bonaventura saw a powerful effort blocked behind at the near post.

Milan came even closer moments later as Luiz Adriano found space to meet a corner, before firing a volley narrowly wide of the target.

A loose pass from Alessio Romagnoli then gave Verona the chance to break, with Federico Viviani eventually drilling a shot narrowly wide of Gianluigi Donnarumma's far post.

The Rossoneri soon created another promising chance at the other end of the pitch, as Carlos Bacca's flick sent Bonaventura through on goal, but Pierluigi Gollini was quickly out to block his low effort.

Despite Milan's dominance, it was Verona who came within inches of taking the lead as Eros Pisano met Viviani's free kick at the back post, before directing the ball narrowly wide.

Within minutes the hosts broke quickly and Adriano slotted in at the back post from Bacca's pass, but the goal was ruled out for an offside against the Colombian in the build-up.

The teams headed into the break on level terms, but at the start of the second half there were chances at both ends, as Artur Ionita nodded wide for Verona, before Bonaventura saw his header saved by Gollini.

Milan finally made their pressure count in the 52nd minute when Bacca was found inside the box by Adriano, before firing high into the net to give his side the lead.

However, just five minutes later the Rossoneri found themselves down to 10 men and facing a penalty as Nigel De Jong was shown a straight red card for hauling down Leandro Greco inside the box.

Luca Toni was then tasked with converting the ensuing spot kick, and the veteran striker made no mistake with a confident strike into the roof of the net.

The game became increasingly fractured as both teams committed a number of fouls, but with six minutes left to play Andrea Bertolacci almost restored his side's lead with a volley that dropped inches wide of the far post.

Milan continued to press for the winner and Bonaventura fired wide deep into stoppage time, but it proved to be the final chance of the match, as Sinisa Mihajlovic's side failed to pick up the three points.
