Sports Mole sorts the heroes from the villains in Anderlecht's bittersweet victory at home to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Anderlecht beat Galatasaray 2-0 tonight but it was not enough to keep them in contention for a last-16 place in the Champions League.

Chancel Mbemba scored twice as Besnik Hasi's side dropped into the Europa League after confirming their third-placed finish in Group D.

Here, Sports Mole sorts the heroes from the villains on a bittersweet night for the Belgians in Brussels.

ANDERLECHT

Goal

Silvio Proto: Pulled off a string of crucial saves to continuously deny Galatasaray at a period in the game when they were firmly on top. Hugely important display from the keeper. (7/10)

Defence

Anthony Vanden Borre: Got forward plenty and perhaps abandoned his right-back duties at times as Galatasaray found themselves with quite a bit of space in that area occasionally. (5/10)

Chancel Mbemba: Scored both goals but was equally impressive in defence, keeping Burak on a short leash throughout the 90 minutes. Fine performance. (8/10)

Olivier Deschacht: Made a couple of massively important interventions, including to deny Burak what seemed a certain goal at one point in the second half. (6/10)

Frank Acheampong: Dovetailed really well with Conte on Anderlecht's left-hand side and would have had an assist if not for Mitrovic, who spurned a golden chance early on. (7/10)

Midfield

Stevan Defour: Event-filled first-half performance in which he hit the post and was booked, but Defour, who was considered a doubt before kickoff, was hauled off at the break. (6/10)

Youri Tielemans: Forced Muslera to beat away one or two teasing free kicks - including the one that directly led to Mbemba's second goal. Looked very tidy in possession, too. (7/10)

Andy Najar: Found himself drifting in-field quite a lot to little effect, rather than sticking to the right wing, where he did occasionally have some joy against left-back Telles. (5/10)

Dennis Praet: Assisted the first goal with a clever flick-on which Mbemba headed past Muslera. Not as involved as he would have liked other than that. (6/10)

Ibrahima Conte: Asked plenty of questions of left-back Camdal with a lot of powerful running but his end product often let him down tonight. (5/10)

Attack

Aleksandar Mitrovic: Did very little to vindicate his manager's decision to start him by missing a host of clear-cut chances - including a first-half sitter - in a very poor performance. (4/10)

Substitutes

Andy Kawaya: Replaced Defour at the break but never really had the same impact as his predecessor, but did improve slightly as the game grew older. (5/10)

Sacha Kljestan: Only had five minutes to make an impact but the game was effectively over by the time he was introduced. (5/10)

Cyriac: Replaced Mitrovic on 89 minutes but the move perhaps could've been made sooner. (5/10)

GALATASARAY

Goal

Fernando Muslera: One or two important saves, but was questionable for Anderlecht's second goal after palming a free kick to Mbemba. Luke-warm performance overall. (6/10)

Defence

Tarik Camdal: Struggled with the powerful running of Acheampong and Conte, but looked far better in the second half. Also forced Proto into a brilliant save as Galatasaray grew into the game. (7/10)

Aurelien Chedjou: Allowed Mitrovic to get goal-side of him once too often and would have been punished for it if not for the Serbian's profligacy. (5/10)

Semih Kaya: Looked far better than his centre-half partner but was perhaps slightly suspect in the concession of the first goal. (6/10)

Alex Telles: Fortunate not to concede a penalty after a first-half collision with Vanden Borre that the referee deemed to be outside the box when replays suggested otherwise. (5/10)

Midfield

Felipe Melo: Made a couple of errors early in the game but he settled well eventually and offered plenty of defensive support. (6/10)

Selcuk Inan: Slightly unlucky to be sent off after picking up a second yellow card for a verbal protest it seemed. Along with Melo, shielded his defence well throughout his 83 minutes on the field. (5/10)

Wesley Sneijder: Made Galatasaray tick at times but never dictated the game as perhaps a player of his stature should. One or two bright moments but consistency hindered him tonight. (5/10)

Attack

Hamit Altıntop: Should have had a few assists but his teammates wasted his creativity. Also forced Prota into a smart save in the second half. Can be happy with his own performance tonight. (7/10)

Bruma: Never got into the game at all and looked like getting worse as the minutes ticked on. Replaced by Bulut with 15 minutes left but the change perhaps could have come sooner. (4/10)

Burak Yilmaz: Only had one chance in the entire 90 minutes and ended up hitting the crossbar in a one-on-one at 1-0 down. It's a different game altogether had he kept his cool. Big miss. (5/10)

Substitutes

Umut Bulut: Looked far better than Bruma after coming on in the 75th minute but really only had eight minutes to make an impact, with Inan seeing red to leave Galatasaray a man light. (5/10)

Furkan Ozcal: A 92nd-minute cameo. (5/10)
