Declan Rice starts on the bench for Arsenal against former club West Ham United in the EFL Cup, while Emile Smith Rowe is not involved due to a knee injury.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has named Declan Rice on the bench for Wednesday's EFL Cup fourth-round tie with West Ham United.

The 24-year-old is back at the London Stadium for the first time since his British-record £105m move to the Emirates, but as expected, he will not be starting against his former club.

In addition, Emile Smith Rowe - who made his first Premier League start since May 2022 against Sheffield United at the weekend - is absent entirely due to a knee injury, as Arteta makes six changes to his starting lineup.

Aaron Ramsdale replaces David Raya in between the sticks, while Gabriel Magalhaes is brought back into an otherwise unaltered rearguard as William Saliba enjoys a rest.

Fabio Vieira and Jorginho have been introduced into the engine room alongside Jorginho, while Reiss Nelson and Leandro Trossard are promoted to the first XI either side of Blades hat-trick hero Eddie Nketiah.

Meanwhile, West Ham boss David Moyes has brought five new faces into the starting XI, including recalls for ex-Arsenal defensive duo Lukasz Fabianski and Dinos Mavropanos.

Tomas Soucek, Emerson Palmieri and Said Benrahma are also back in for the Irons, who will seemingly deploy Jarrod Bowen at the tip of their 4-2-3-1 system.

West Ham United: Fabianski; Coufal, Mavropanos, Aguerd, Emerson; Alvarez, Soucek; Kudus, Paqueta, Benrahma; Bowen
Subs: Areola, Cresswell, Ward-Prowse, Fornals, Antonio, Cornet, Ings, Ogbonna, Kehrer

Arsenal: Ramsdale; White, Kiwior, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Vieira, Jorginho, Havertz; Nelson, Nketiah, Trossard
Subs: Hein, Cedric, Tomiyasu, Saliba, Rice, Elneny, Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli body check tags ::
