Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney would reportedly consider a return to Celtic this summer following the appointment of manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops confirmed that Rodgers will take the reins for a second time at Parkhead earlier this month following the departure of Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 50-year-old spend just under three years as Celtic manager before leaving the club in February 2019 to take over at Leicester City.

Six months later, Tierney ended his 14-year association with the Hoops and completed a £25m move to Arsenal where he has since struggled with injuries and a lack of game time under Mikel Arteta.

The 26-year-old was forced to play second fiddle behind new signing Oleksandr Zinchenko last season, and niggling injuries reduced the left-back to just 15 starts across all competitions.

Tierney, who has started just four games since the turn of the year, still has three years remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, but the prospect of leaving the Gunners this summer in search of regular first-team football has been mooted.

Newcastle United a reportedly preparing a bid to sign the Scotland international, while Manchester City and Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest.

However, The Sun claims that Tierney will not close the door on a possible return to Celtic this summer and intends to weigh up his options before the new season begins.

The report adds that a loan deal is an option for the left-back if both Celtic and Arsenal can come to an agreement over the player's wage structure and a substantial loan fee.

It remains to be seen whether Celtic would be open to a loan or permanent move for Tierney, but Rodgers is understood to have a £30m transfer budget available this summer.

Tierny admitted last year that he cannot rule out a return to Celtic, who he joined as a seven-year-old back in 2005 before spending four trophy-laden seasons in the senior team between 2015 and 2019.

"I think when a player who loves the club leaves there's always that, 'what if he comes back' and you can't rule anything out," the Scotsman told Football Scotland.

"I'm always going to love Celtic. I'm always going to support Celtic so you never know in football, you genuinely don't".

Tierney contributed with eight goals and 37 assists in 170 appearances for Celtic and won eight major domestic trophies including four Scottish Premiership titles.

Meanwhile, star forward Kyogo Furuhashi has refused to rule out a potential departure from the Hoops this summer amid interest from Postecoglou's Tottenham. body check tags ::
