Barcelona manager Xavi has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join the Brazil set-up earlier this year with a view to eventually replacing Tite as head coach.

The Spaniard was officially represented as Barcelona's new head coach on Monday, with the Catalan giants recently coming to an agreement with Al-Sadd to allow him to end his contract in Qatar.

Xavi has said that he had the opportunity to work with the Brazilian national side as a coach with the view to taking over from current boss Tite after the 2022 World Cup.

However, the 41-year-old has said that he always 'dreamed' of returning to Camp Nou and is "very confident" that he has made the right decision regarding his future.

"It's true that I spoke with Brazil," Xavi said on Monday. "The idea was to help Tite and take over the team after the World Cup. My dream was to come to Barcelona. I feel ready, very confident, I feel this is the moment."

Xavi, who has taken over at Camp Nou from interim boss Sergi Barjuan, will be in the dugout when Barcelona face Espanyol in the Catalan derby on November 20. body check tags ::
