Barcelona are reportedly prepared to allow Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto to leave the club at the end of their current contracts in the summer.

Having joined from Chelsea in the summer transfer window of 2022, 32-year-old Alonso formed a major part of Xavi's plans as his side pipped Real Madrid to the La Liga title last season.

This campaign has been a different story for the Spaniard, though, with Alonso playing just 160 minutes of league football, last starting for Barcelona in the Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk in early November.

Right-back Roberto has also seen his game time severely limited in the opening months of the 2023-24 campaign, however the defender managed to bag a brace in his team's 3-2 win over Almeria on December 20.

According to Football Espana, Barcelona are willing to let both Alonso and Roberto depart at the conclusion of the season.

The defensive duo both have contracts with Xavi's side which expire at the end of the 2023-24 term, and the report claims that the Catalan giants will let the deals run out.

It is understood that La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid are interested in securing the services of Alonso and Roberto in the summer transfer window should they depart Barca.

Diego Simeone's men were keen on former Chelsea man Alonso ahead of the 2023-24 season, however the Premier League and Champions League winner remained under the tutelage of Xavi.

A possible agreement to see Roberto's time at Barca extended would supposedly include a significant pay cut, even though the full-back is said to be the lowest-paid first-team player at the club.

The 11-time international graduated from Barcelona's La Masia academy in August 2010 and has gone on to make 357 appearances for the Spanish powerhouses, scoring 19 goals.

The 31-year-old has only played five league matches so far this season but did impress in the Catalonians' engine room alongside Ilkay Gundogan and Fermin Lopez last time out in La Liga.

Barca's defence of the Spanish crown has hit a number of obstacles this season, with Xavi's charges currently sitting in fourth, seven points behind pacesetters Real Madrid and Girona.

Following the winter break, Barcelona are back in competition action as they fly over to face Las Palmas on January 4, with the Yellows enjoying a successful return to the top flight thus far. body check tags ::
