The former QPR and Cardiff midfielder died following a battle with cancer.

Former clubs have paid tribute to Matthew Brazier after the QPR academy product died of cancer.

The 42-year-old's death was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, with Brazier having suffered from non-Hodgkin's Follicular Lymphoma.

After coming through the ranks at Loftus Road, Brazier went on to make 64 appearances for the R's before the midfielder moved on to Fulham.

A short stay with the Whites led to a loan move to Cardiff – who then signed Brazier on a permanent deal in 1999.

He would end his career with a two-year spell at Leyton Orient, with his former employers offering their sympathies.

"#QPR are saddened to announce the passing of former player Matthew Brazier, who's died at 42 following a brave battle with Non-Hodgkin Follicular Lymphoma," his first club tweeted.

"Matthew played for the R's between 1995-1998. Our thoughts are with Matthew's wife Michelle, his family and friends."

Although he made less of an impact across west London, Fulham were also quick to pay their respects.

"Everyone at #FFC was saddened to hear of the passing of Matt Brazier, who died aged 42 following a battle with Non-Hodgkin Follicular Lymphoma. Matt played 13 times under Ray Wilkins & Kevin
Keegan in the late 90s and our thoughts are with his family & friends at this sad time," they tweeted.

Meanwhile, Leyton Orient posted: "The Club are saddened to hear of the passing of Matthew Brazier at the age of 42. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this awful time. "

Brazier helped Cardiff to promotion from Division Three and they also sent a tweet to mark his death.

"#CardiffCity are saddened to hear of the passing of Matthew Brazier. Much loved by supporters in the Welsh capital, Matthew played for City between 1998 and 2002. Our thoughts are with his family and all who knew him. Forever a Bluebird," they wrote.
