Chelsea will be attempting to extend a 21-year streak when they play host to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Despite shelling out over £600m across two transfer windows, Chelsea have endured a dismal campaign, particularly in the Premier League.

Caretaker manager Frank Lampard takes his side into the clash with Newcastle knowing that achieving 11th place in the standings is a best-case scenario.

Nevertheless, Lampard will be motivated to end his temporary spell on a high against opponents who booked their place in next season's Champions League earlier this week.

Chelsea head into the fixture at Stamford Bridge possessing the sixth-worst home record in the division, collecting just 24 points from their 18 matches.

In all competitions, Chelsea are without a win in their last seven fixtures at their West London base, six of those games taking place in the top flight.

However, from a historical perspective, Chelsea have an excellent home record versus the Magpies, losing just one of their 27 Premier League games in this fixture.

Furthermore, Chelsea have prevailed in the last nine home meetings with Newcastle, not suffering defeat since Papiss Cisse's wonder strike helped Newcastle win in May 2012.

As well as that winning streak to protect, the Blues will be looking to prolong a 21-year run of avoiding defeats when playing their final Premier League fixture of the season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have put together a record of nine wins and three draws across 12 matches since they lost out to Aston Villa at the end of 2001-02.

As far as Newcastle are concerned, they are looking to come through a top-flight campaign without losing in London for the first time in 26 years.

Eddie Howe will also be keen for Newcastle to complete their first double over Chelsea since 1986-87, the reverse fixture being decided by a 20-yard Joe Willock strike before the World Cup. body check tags ::
