John Terry eyes further Chelsea improvement

Chelsea skipper John Terry calls on his side to get the fans back behind them by building on their victory over Sunderland.

Chelsea captain John Terry has urged his teammates to build on Saturday's 3-1 victory over Sunderland in order to get the fans back on their side.

The home supporters inside Stamford Bridge voiced their displeasure at the decision to part company with Jose Mourinho throughout yesterday's victory over the Black Cats, in addition to jeering the names of Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard.

Chelsea remain just three points clear of the relegation zone after 17 games of the season, but Terry is keen to look forward following a tumultuous campaign on and off the field so far.

When asked whether it was important to get the fans back on side, Mourinho told the club's official website: "Absolutely and rightly so as well. Chelsea is such a big club and we are not used to being down here.

"The last 10 years we have had such good times and the fans have supported us through this difficult period and we will come out on top, sooner or later, if we keep putting in performances like that. The fans will be happy and they will be going home with smiles on their faces but rightly they are disappointed and so are we, we don't want to be where we are.

"All of us are in this position, it is not one or two individuals, we are in this position because one or two have performed and the rest haven't unfortunately - but that is behind us now. It is all in the past and we have to move on and start winning matches. Chelsea need to be a lot higher in the league than we are."

Guus Hiddink will take charge of his first game as interim boss on Boxing Day when Chelsea welcome in-form Watford to West London.
