Chelsea 'join race for Everton forward Richarlison'

Chelsea are reportedly preparing to step up their interest in Everton forward Richarlison, who may be allowed to leave Goodison Park this summer.

Chelsea are reportedly planning on making a formal approach for Everton forward Richarlison at some point during the summer transfer window.

Despite Chelsea having been under new ownership and being without restrictions for three weeks, the Blues are yet to delve into the market ahead of 2022-23.

Instead, the focus has been on trying to find a resolution regarding the situation with Romelu Lukaku, who is keen to re-sign for Inter Milan on loan.

If reports are to be believed, the relevant parties are close to negotiating a positive conclusion, a development which would free Chelsea up to prioritise signings of their own.

Over the past few days, much of the talk has been about the potential arrival of Raheem Sterling, who has just 12 months remaining on his Manchester City contract.

However, according to the Daily Mail, the West Londoners also have a high level of interest in securing a deal for versatile attacker Richarlison.

The report says that head coach Thomas Tuchel is intent on freshening up his attacking options over the coming weeks and months after witnessing his side not always impress in that area of the pitch last season.

As well as Lukaku, there are doubts over the long-term futures of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, both of whom would prefer more appearances from the starting lineup.

If Chelsea can beat the likes of Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the Brazil international, at least one of those players would theoretically be made available for transfer.

Nevertheless, Everton must first accept a bid for their most prized asset, it being said that a proposal of at least £50m will have to be put forward for the Toffees to consider a sale.

The 25-year-old played a key role in keeping the Merseyside outfit in the Premier League during the last campaign, contributing four goals and one assist during his final seven outings.

In total, 53 strikes and 14 assists have come from 151 appearances in all competitions, a return which has led to interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the past.

However, neither club represents a realistic option this summer, and Richarlison may welcome the opportunity to ply his trade at Stamford Bridge with Champions League football on offer.

Despite Everton's alleged stance over an asking price, the club are under pressure to improve their financial position before the end of August.

With Richarlison having just two years left on his contract, Everton may not want to risk the player entering the final 12 months of his contract if they want to maximise the fee that they can recoup for his services. body check tags ::
