Loanee hints at desire to remain at Chelsea next season

:Headline: Loanee hints at desire to remain at Chelsea next season:
A Chelsea player who has spent the season out on loan hints he would like to remain at Stamford Bridge for 2024-25.

David Datro Fofana has indicated that he would like to start next season at Chelsea, rather than go back out on loan.

Since moving to Stamford Bridge at the start of 2023, the forward has found game time for the Blues hard to come by with just one start and three substitute outings coming in all competitions.

The summer acquisitions of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, combined with Armando Broja remaining at the club, inevitably led to Fofana going out on loan.

An unproductive stint with Union Berlin, where the 21-year-old scored just twice in 17 matches, led to a recall in January before being allowed to make the switch to Burnley.

Fofana enjoyed his spell at Turf Moor far more than in the Bundesliga, contributing four goals and one assist from his 10 starts and five substitute outings in the Premier League.

With the Clarets having been relegated to the Championship, though, there is no prospect of the Ivory Coast international spending more time at the North West outfit.

Fofana keen on Chelsea stay?

Possessing a contract until 2029, Fofana may not necessarily be fast-tracked into the first team at Chelsea, leaving open the possibility of another loan.

Nevertheless, speaking after Burnley's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, a result that confirmed Vincent Kompany's side relegation, Fofana hinted that he was in favour of beginning the season in West London.

Speaking to Capital Football, Fofana said: "I haven't thought about it yet. I think I'll go back and why not do the pre-season with Chelsea?

"I wanted to stay (in January) but some things happened. But for sure I have nothing to envy Nicolas Jackson, who is my friend."

Is remaining at Chelsea realistic?

With Jackson and Nkunku the current first-choice options under Mauricio Pochettino, Fofana would know the score if he was to be reintegrated back into the fold.

Much may depend on whether Chelsea are insistent on signing an established number nine. Perceived issues with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability put that plan in doubt.

Something that could work in Fofana's favour is the potential sale of Armando Broja. If the Albania international is sold, which looks likely after his failed loan switch at Fulham, Fofana could act as a direct replacement without Chelsea needing to spend any money.

Fofana's versatility across the frontline also makes him a viable option to boost numbers in the senior squad with Chelsea not always possessing strength in depth in attack during 2023-24. body check tags ::
