Veteran Colombia goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon confirms his retirement from football with immediate effect.

Faryd Mondragon has confirmed his retirement from the game following Colombia's exit from the World Cup at the hands of Brazil last night.

The 43-year-old became the oldest player to have ever turned out at the tournament when he came off the bench to replace David Ospina against Japan during the group stages.

However, in the wake of the defeat to the hosts, the goalkeeper posted a short message on his Instagram page, where he stated: "This is my last stadium as a professional player. I'm proud to be part of this wonderful group."

Mondragon played for a host of clubs throughout his 24-year career, including Real Zaragoza, Metz, Galatasaray and more recently Deportivo Cali.
