England goalkeeper Ben Foster has been ruled out of tonight's friendly against Norway due to a thumb injury.
The shot-stopper has returned to West Bromwich Albion for treatment after suffering the problem during training on Tuesday.
However, Albion are confident that Foster will be available for England's opening European Championship qualifier against Switzerland on Monday.
"We will spend the next few days letting it settle down and then assess it again – but at this stage we are optimistic it is not a serious problem," Albion's director of football administration Richard Garlick told the club's official website.
Foster has won eight caps for the England national team since he made his debut back in 2007.
