Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley confirms that the club are interested in signing free agent and former Leicester City right-back Danny Simpson.

Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has revealed that the club are hoping to snap up free agent Danny Simpson.

The 32-year-old right-back has been without a club since his contract at Leicester City expired at the end of last season.

New Terriers boss Cowley has admitted that the experienced full-back is a target, and says that the club are doing their best to bring him to the Championship.

"He has been in the building now for about ten days," Cowley told The Yorkshire Post.

"We are really keen to be able to get something done and the chairman is working exceptionally hard to try to make it happen. Fingers crossed, we can get it over the line. Danny is a great kid and got a really good attitude and application. Already, he has had an influence on people - young players and some of the senior ones.

"He defends the back post well and brings a wealth of experience which we can use to help organise what is a really young group for us. He is an experienced player and a very good one-on-one defender and his positioning is excellent. He ticks all of the boxes both as a player and a person and we would love to make that and I know he is very keen to make that happen. Normally, when there is a will, there is a way."

Cowley also revealed that the defender had been training with fellow Championship side West Bromwich Albion, who may also be in contention for his signature.

"He has actually trained at West Brom prior to coming to us, so he has had about four weeks now on the grass and is close to match fitness. Obviously, he is short of game-time and that is something we will be able to put right if we make it happen," Cowley continued.

Huddersfield are bottom of the Championship with just one point from eight games, but will be hoping to rectify that and claim their first win of the season when they host Millwall next.
