How Roma could line up against Liverpool

Ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg between Roma and Liverpool, Sports Mole looks at how the hosts could line up at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma will welcome five-time European champions Liverpool to the Italian capital this evening knowing that they have it all to do if they are to book their place in the final of the Champions League for the first time since 1984.

The Serie A outfit were blown away in the first leg at Anfield eight days ago, but salvaged a glimmer of late hope by scoring twice in the final 10 minutes to leave themselves with a 5-2 deficit to make up.

It remains a tall order against a Liverpool team in devastating goalscoring form on the European front, but Roma produced a similar comeback against all the odds to knock the much-fancied Barcelona out in the last round.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Eusebio Di Francesco's team could line up at the Stadio Olimpico.

Out: Rick Karsdorp (knee), Gregoire Defrel (knee)

Eusebio has little choice but to attack Liverpool this evening, but he will also be wary of how easily the Reds sliced his high line open time after time in the first leg at Anfield.

Liverpool's pace in behind could force Eusebio to revert to a back four - rather than the back three he used on Merseyside - with Juan Jesus the most likely to make way from the central defenders.

A switch to a 4-3-3 system to match Liverpool's could see Diego Perotti return to the starting lineup, although changes are likely to be kept to a minimum despite the one-sided nature of the first leg.

Kostas Manolas, Cengiz Under, Kevin Strootman and Alessandro Florenzi were all given the weekend off and should return fresh, while Edin Dzeko scored twice on Saturday to take his tally up to 23 for the season across all competitions.
