Simon Mignolet: 'Liverpool deserved to beat Chelsea'

Simon Mignolet believes that Liverpool should have beaten Chelsea in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.

Simon Mignolet has claimed that Liverpool deserved to beat Chelsea following Tuesday's 1-1 draw between the teams in the League Cup semi-finals.

The Reds fought back from a goal down in the first leg at Anfield last night, but they were unable to convert their late pressure into a victory.

With the tie hanging in the balance, the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge for the decisive second leg on January 27.

"In big games you always want to put in big performances and we did that against Chelsea," Mignolet told the Liverpool Echo. "We made it very difficult for Chelsea, who have been in top form. There was only one team who deserved to win, and that was us.

"We played some great football, created a lot of chances and the only thing that was missing was a few more goals. Hopefully we can get the right result at Stamford Bridge and get ourselves into the final."

Liverpool are back in action on Saturday when they host Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup fourth round.
