Relive Sports Mole's live coverage as Manchester City edge out Liverpool in a penalty shootout to win the Community Shield on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester City have won the Community Shield courtesy of a penalty-shootout victory over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Raheem Sterling gave the Premier League champions an early lead, but Joel Matip struck 13 minutes from time to deservedly earn Liverpool a share of the spoils after normal time.

However, Georginio Wijnaldum's miss during the shootout proved pivotal as City wrapped up a 5-4 win from 12 yards.

Find out how all of the action unfolded at Wembley Stadium courtesy of Sports Mole's minute-by-minute updates below.

Hello and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the Community Shield between Liverpool and Manchester City. These two clubs impressed throughout the last campaign, but will they be able to replicate their previous form this time around? As the two sides make their way out onto the pitch, let's see who features in each starting lineup...
LIVERPOOL XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Origi, Firmino

LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTES: Mignolet, Lovren, Matip, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Shaqiri

MANCHESTER CITY XI: Bravo; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Zinchenko; Rodri, D.Silva, De Bruyne; Bernardo, Sane, Sterling

MANCHESTER CITY SUBSTITUTES: Ederson, Angelino, E.Garcia, Gundogan, Foden, Jesus, Aguero

KICKOFF:  Liverpool get us underway!
It has been a bright start from both sides. Liverpool put together the first attack, although City dealt with it in confident fashion by playing the ball out from in front of their own goal.
CHANCE!  Gomez takes too much time on the ball and he is quickly dispossessed by Sterling. A pass is played through to Sane, but the winger can only fire into the side-netting from an acute angle.
SHOT!  This would have been a stunning goal. Firmino plucked the ball out of the air with his foot before setting himself up for a volley on the turn. It was a good effort, but his shot was well held by Bravo.
CHANCE!  Liverpool should be ahead. Firmino, who has started this game on fire, won the ball in the final third before playing in Salah. The Egyptian should convert with a first-time strike from 15 yards, but he drags a shot wide of the near post.
We are having a break in play while Sane receives some treatment for a knee injury. Given the way which he went down in a challenge with Alexander-Arnold, there is a bit of concern.
GOAL!  LIVERPOOL 0-1 MANCHESTER CITY (RAHEEM STERLING)
GOAL!  City go in front! A floated ball from Walker is headed back across goal by Zinchenko, and after the ball is helped on to Sterling, the winger is able to bundle a shot past Alisson from six yards out.
SUBSTITUTION! Sane got back to his feet, but it quickly becomes evident that he won't be able to continue. Jesus is the player who is being introduced into the action.
CHANCE!  Both backlines are all over the place. Salah gets the better of Zinchenko down the right and gets himself into a shooting position. However, the winger can only shoot into the side-netting when he perhaps should have passed.
CHANCE!  Yet another chance! Liverpool, again, look off the pace in defence and although Robertson is able to get back to deny De Bruyne, the ball runs over to Sterling. The Englishman attempts to find the far corner, but Alisson is equal to the strike.
City are carving Liverpool open at will. Bernardo should perhaps do better when advancing into the area, but a Liverpool defender is able to get back to make the tackle.
Liverpool are still having plenty of joy going forward, although it feels like only a matter of time before City add a second.
We are having a bit of a lull in the action. We should point out that it is a humid day in North London and it will take its toll on the players.
It's not quite a case of one chance at one end and another at the opposite, but there is definitely a back-and-forth feel to this contest. City are continuing to shade it in most areas.
Guardiola is on his feet in the technical area. He doesn't look too impressed with City after the last passage of play. It's very harsh, but it is all about setting standards ahead of the rest of the season.
SHOT!  Zinchenko can only clear the ball behind him after meeting a cross, and it gives Salah the chance to get another shot on goal. However, it's a rushed effort, which clears the crossbar by some distance.
A quick word on Bravo in the Man City goal. This is his first competitive match since suffering an Achilles in the same fixture 12 months ago. All things considered, the Chilean has looked sharp.
YELLOW CARD!  Origi turns towards the final third from the halfway line and it takes a cynical foul from De Bruyne to halt him. An easy decision for the referee.
One more than one occasion, Man City have started an attack literally a yard or two from goal. Rodri is dropping very deep, and it is benefitting the Premier League champions.
The pace of this contest has definitely dropped. It has allowed both defences to get set after a shaky opening half-hour.
De Bruyne finds himself through on goal and you would back him to score. However, the Belgian was half-a-yard offside when making his run.
Guardiola is furious with a tackle from Gomez on David Silva. Both players put their feet up to contest the ball and the latter came off worse. However, there was nothing malicious in it whatsoever. A complete over-reaction from Guardiola.
The referee has gone over to hand Guardiola a yellow card. The Spaniard can have no complaints.
Liverpool win a free kick in a threatening position on the left after a needless foul from Bernardo Silva on Origi. However, the set piece comes to nothing with Bravo making an easy claim.
There will be three minutes of added-on time.
City have kept hold of the ball for the last couple of minutes and are pushing for a second goal. Liverpool are just trying to protect a one-goal deficit.
HALF TIME:  Liverpool 0-1 Manchester City
The half-time whistle goes at Wembley Stadium and Man City lead thanks to Sterling's early goal. Liverpool have had their moments, but Klopp will probably be relieved that his side only trail by the narrowest of margins.
A quick reminder of the two benches...

LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTES: Mignolet, Lovren, Matip, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Shaqiri

MANCHESTER CITY SUBSTITUTES: Ederson, Angelino, E.Garcia, Gundogan, Foden, Aguero

The two sets of players are slowly beginning to emerge for the second half. We are yet to see any signs of changes being made at the break.
KICKOFF:  City get us back underway.
SHOT!  Another mistake in the Liverpool defence - this time from Alexander-Arnold - leads to Jesus teeing up David Silva. The Spaniard gets a half-volley away, but his effort is always rising over the crossbar.
SHOT!  Liverpool go back on the front foot and Robertson is able to set up Origi. However, the Belgian's scuffed strike is deflected into the hands of Bravo.
This second half has began much like the first. Both teams are bombing forward at will. Liverpool are in the ascendancy right now, however.
That said, City look so much sharper than Liverpool. Van Dijk just saw a pass closed down by Jesus, and the Dutchman had to react quickly in order to beat the striker to the loose ball.
Liverpool are looking to up the tempo, however. They haven't been moving the ball about with too much intensity in the middle of the pitch, but that has changed since the restart.
Firmino has been Liverpool's best player by a mile, and the Brazilian thinks that he has claims for a penalty. However, it was only a minor touch of the shoulder from Stones.
OFF THE BAR!  How has this not gone in?! Van Dijk's volley on the bounce hits the underside of the crossbar and in real time, looks to have gone over the line. However, there is no signal to the referee, and play continues. We are talking millimetres!

OFF THE POST!  Now Salah has hit the post! Salah works some space for himself on the edge of the area, and his low strike from 20 yards cannons off the post and bounces away from goal.
SUBSTITUTION! It's time for a second Man City change. Gundogan is being introduced for David Silva.
Liverpool want the ball kicked out of play due to Origi being injured, but City continue. Walker threads a pass through to Sterling and the winger has options to his right and left. However, he picks neither, and the ball runs through to Alisson.

I cannot believe that we have only had one goal in this football match. It could easily be 2-2 or 3-3. We have to have at least one more, surely.
We are not far away from seeing some Liverpool changes. Both teams are allowed to make six alterations apiece.
SUBSTITUTIONS! Matip is coming on for Alexander-Arnold, while Keita has been brought on for Fabinho.
Matip finds himself straight in the thick of the action, with the centre-back coming out on top in a battle with Jesus. The City man would have been in on goal had he got the better of the defender.
SHOT!  Back come Liverpool as Salah continues his quest to get on the scoresheet. He gets another solid effort away from distance, but Bravo does well to get down low to his left.
SHOT!  Back come City who get a shot away inside the area through De Bruyne, but Alisson is alert to the ball going through the legs of a defender to prevent it finding the bottom corner.
Sterling has taken a knock of some sort, but he should be fine to continue. Liverpool, meanwhile, are lining up more changes.
We are still waiting for those alterations to be made as Liverpool keep hold of the ball, without showing much intent on ploughing forward.
GOAL!  LIVERPOOL 1-1 MANCHESTER CITY (JOEL MATIP)
GOAL!  Liverpool are back on level terms! The goal is very similar to Man City's. Van Dijk received the ball on the left-hand side of the area before lobbing a cross into the area, where Matip was on hand to convert a header from six yards out.
SUBSTITUTIONS! Liverpool make three substitutions, with Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana and Shaqiri being introduced for Henderson, Origi and Firmino.
At this point, I should point out that should we remain level, there will no extra time. We would head straight to penalties.
CHANCE!  It's all Liverpool now. The ball is pulled back for Keita who is waiting around 15 yards from goal, and it takes a smart intervention from Bravo to keep out the midfielder's shot.
Neither side is settling for penalties. Liverpool look the more likely to find a winner, but don't rule out City, who are about to make a third switch.
CHANCE!  Salah must be closing in on double figures as far as shots are concerned. Rodri is dispossessed and the ball is helped on to the Egyptian, but Bravo comes out quickly to make the block.
SUBSTITUTION! Finally, the change is made with Foden coming on for De Bruyne, who has cramp.
There will be four minutes of added-on time.
It is City's turn to go in search of a winner. Robertson has to remain brave in the six-yard box to prevent Sterling's cross from finding a teammate.
OFF THE LINE!  Walker has just made a worldie of a goal-line clearance! After initially seeing a shot saved, Salah sent a looping header towards an empty net, but the City right-back got back to prevent a decisive goal with an overhead kick on the line.
FULL TIME:  Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City
After a Shaqiri shot is saved by Bravo, the full-whistle is blown. We are heading to penalties!
Right then, here we go. It looks like Liverpool will be taking the first spot kick. Shaqiri to take...
LIVERPOOL 1-0* MANCHESTER CITY - SHAQIRI SCORES! Liverpool get off to a positive start with Shaqiri sending Bravo the wrong way.
LIVERPOOL *1-1 MANCHESTER CITY - GUNDOGAN SCORES! Gundogan does the same, with the ball being fired to Alisson's right.
LIVERPOOL 1-1* MANCHESTER CITY - WIJNALDUM MISSES! Advantage City as Wijnaldum sees a poor effort kept out by Bravo.
LIVERPOOL *1-2 MANCHESTER CITY - BERNARDO SILVA SCORES! City go ahead as Bernardo Silva sends Alisson the wrong way with a nice effort to his right.
LIVERPOOL 2-2* MANCHESTER CITY - LALLANA SCORES! Lallana keeps Liverpool in touching distance with a brilliant low penalty to Bravo's right.
LIVERPOOL *2-3 MANCHESTER CITY - FODEN SCORES! Any nerves from the youngster? None whatsoever as he sweeps the ball into the right corner.
LIVERPOOL 3-3* MANCHESTER CITY - OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN SCORES! Another fine spot kick, this time from Oxlade-Chamberlain who finds the top corner.
LIVERPOOL *3-4 MANCHESTER CITY - ZINCHENKO SCORES! Was this Liverpool's chance? Alisson gets hands to Zinchenko's penalty, but cannot keep it out.
LIVERPOOL 4-4* MANCHESTER CITY - SALAH SCORES! Salah must score and he does just that with a good penalty to Bravo's right.
LIVERPOOL 4-5 MANCHESTER CITY - JESUS SCORES! Can Jesus win it for Man City? You bet he can. He is very deliberate with his effort, but it is enough to beat Alisson.
So there we are. Man City have won their second successive Community Shield. Guardiola's side were made to work hard for it, though. There is an argument that Liverpool perhaps deserved to emerge victorious, but they were not clinical in front of goal.

That will be all from Sports Mole for this match. Thank you for joining us this afternoon and we hope to see you again soon. If you would like to read our on-the-whistle match report, you can do so by clicking here. Goodbye for now.
