Conor Coady admits that leaving Liverpool was difficult but believes that the decision was justified given his good form for Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Conor Coady has admitted that leaving Liverpool was difficult but believes that the decision was justified given his need for game time and subsequent rise with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Merseyside-born defender came through the ranks at Anfield but left in 2014 to join Huddersfield Town.

A year later, Coady linked up with Wolves and has remained with the club ever since, boasting impressive form this term in helping the West Midlanders to the top of the Championship table.

"It was a difficult decision to leave Liverpool but I knew it was something I had to do to get playing regularly and improve," Coady told The Mirror.

"Brendan Rodgers (then-Liverpool manager) was brilliant with me, Sheffield United [on loan] was a fantastic experience, then Huddersfield and when Wolves came up I had no hesitation at all.

"I knew what a big club it was before I joined but when you get there, it's only then you realise just how big. The owners have been fantastic, the manager this season has been fantastic and they have taken the club to a whole new level."

Coady has been capped up to Under-20 level for England but is still awaiting his first senior appearance for the Three Lions.
