Jose Mourinho: 'Andrew Robertson should have been sent off'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho claims that Liverpool full-back Andrew Robertson should have been sent off for a tackle on Japhet Tanganga.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that Andrew Robertson should have been sent off for a tackle on Japhet Tanganga during this evening's 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Robertson got the ball before clattering into the shin of the Premier League debutant with his studs raised - a collision which left both players in a heap on the floor.

Both on-field referee Martin Atkinson and VAR ruled that the challenge was not worthy of a red card, but Mourinho claimed that it was worse than the incident which saw Son Heung-min sent off against Chelsea last month.

When asked whether he felt it should have been a red card, Mourinho told reporters: "Compared with Son against Chelsea, you have the answer. It was not just that, it was also the throw-in that starts the goal is our throw-in - Mane was the last to touch the ball, and from that they score the goal.

"But because I am a players' coach and not a referees' coach I have to be a little upset with my boys in relation to that one because yesterday in training we spent a long, long time working on defensive throw-ins, and that was where we concede the goal."

Mourinho also reserved special praise for 20-year-old Tanganga, who managed to keep Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah quiet for much of the match.
