RB Leipzig attacker Dominik Szoboszlai has reportedly completed his medical with Liverpool and has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Anfield giants.

The Hungary international was spotted arriving in the UK via private jet earlier on Saturday after Liverpool triggered the £60.2m release clause in his Leipzig deal.

Newcastle United were also believed to have been weighing up a move for Szoboszlai, but the Magpies withdrew their interest to give Liverpool a clear run.

Jurgen Klopp's side scheduled a medical for the 22-year-old this weekend, and according to The Athletic, Szoboszlai has now completed those tests with no problems.

Following his successful examinations, Szoboszlai reportedly signed on the dotted line of a five-year contract, tying him down to the Merseyside club until the summer of 2028.

There was initially some doubt over whether a deal could be done, but the report adds that the "dynamic shifted" during the week, giving Liverpool renewed optimism about their chances of landing the midfielder.

The Reds are now expected to confirm Szoboszlai's arrival within the next 24 hours, as the former Red Bull Salzburg starlet prepares to become their second signing of the summer window.

Szoboszlai will depart Leipzig two and a half years after joining from fellow Red Bull-owned outfit Salzburg in January 2021, and Die Roten Bullen will make a sizeable profit on the €22m (£18.9m) they paid for the Hungarian.

Szoboszlai joined Leipzig despite interest from Arsenal, and the versatile midfielder has since produced 20 goals and 22 assists in 91 games for the German giants in all tournaments.

The 2022-23 season saw Szoboszlai hit double figures in both goals and assists, netting 10 times and setting up 13 more in 46 matches, winning a second successive DFB-Pokal crown.

Primarily a right-sided player, Szoboszlai could be deployed as a midfielder or winger for Liverpool, although Klopp is expected to deploy him as a number eight in his engine room trident.

The Hungary international - who was identified by Klopp as an ideal alternative to Manchester United-bound Mason Mount - will follow Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool following the Argentine's £35m move from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Reds could still try to sign another lynchpin ahead of the 2023-24 season, having seen all of Naby Keita, Leighton Clarkson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur exit in June.

Fabio Carvalho has also departed on loan for Leipzig, but the Portugal international's switch is not thought to be related to Liverpool's move for Szoboszlai.

Nice starlet Khephren Thuram continues to be strongly linked with a switch to Merseyside, while Southampton's Romeo Lavia is also believed to be on Liverpool's midfield shortlist.
