Liverpool 'identify first signing of Arne Slot era'

Liverpool reportedly make a decision over who they would like to make the first signing of Arne Slot's reign in charge.

Liverpool have reportedly identified the player who they would like to make as their first signing of the summer.

According to widespread reports, Liverpool are currently going through the final stages of tying up the managerial appointment of Arne Slot.

At the back end of April, it was alleged that the Feyenoord boss had become the club's first-choice target to replace Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout, and Slot himself has since confirmed that he wants to move to Merseyside.

While it remains unclear when an official announcement will come, Liverpool's newly-assembled recruitment team are in a position where they can start work ahead of the next transfer window.

With several outgoings anticipated and the futures of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah remaining in doubt, everything points to a busy period for the Premier League giants.

Liverpool ready to move for Algeria international?

According to Kicker, the name of Union SG forward Mohamed Amoura features highly on the club's freshly-compiled shortlist.

The report suggests Liverpool are interested in acquiring the Algeria international as an alternative to Salah if he makes the move to the Saudi Pro League.

Amoura has spent his career competing away from European football's major leagues, spending time in his homeland and Switzerland before making the move to Belgium.

However, his form for Union SG - who played Liverpool in the Europa League earlier this year - is eventually expected to lead to a transfer to a bigger club.

Who is Mohamed Amoura?

Whether it was Klopp or Slot in charge, it is easy to see why Liverpool may be interested in Amoura, with the 24-year-old contributing a goal and assist in a 2-1 win over Klopp's side in December.

Throughout the season as a whole, though, he has recorded 22 goals and six assists from 42 appearances in a Union SG shirt since his transfer from Lugano last summer.

While in Switzerland, the attacker, who can play across the frontline, scored 17 goals and chipped in with five assists from 66 matches, winning a Swiss Cup during his time there.

Earlier this week, Amoura was part of the Union SG side that won the Belgian Cup against Antwerp, while he has become a regular with Algeria of late, taking the number of caps won to 22.

The main downside to trying to negotiate a transfer is Amoura still having four years left on his contract, putting Union SG in a strong position to accept their desired valuation or even above it. body check tags ::
