Liverpool are reportedly planning to send right-back Calvin Ramsay out on loan for the 2023-24 campaign.

The 19-year-old caught the eye of several top clubs during his breakthrough with Aberdeen, and Liverpool won the race to bring him to Anfield next summer.

Ramsay joined Jurgen Klopp's side for a £4.3m fee, one of three players to sign for the Reds permanently last summer alongside Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez.

The Scotland international arrived at Anfield to provide backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold, but his debut campaign in Merseyside has since been cut short by knee surgery.

Prior to going under the knife, Ramsay had only made two senior appearances for Liverpool and five at Under-21 level, having also struggled with a stress fracture in his back during his earliest days at the club.

Despite facing criticism for perceived defensive shortcomings, Alexander-Arnold is in no danger of losing his right-back berth anytime soon, and The Sun claims that Ramsay is therefore set to be sent out on loan for the 2023-24 campaign.

Klopp supposedly wants Ramsay to enjoy regular first-team action as soon as possible, although it is currently unclear when the teenager might be back in action following surgery.

Ramsay made his senior Liverpool debut as a late substitute in a 2-0 Champions League win over Napoli in November, eight days before playing 90 minutes against Derby County in the EFL Cup.

The former Aberdeen starlet is still waiting for his first Premier League appearance for the Reds, having only made the bench on one occasion for November's 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Ramsay made an immediate impression at Under-21 level, scoring twice in five appearances across the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy before undergoing his operation.

Liverpool manager Klopp has confirmed that his side will be busy in the summer transfer window amid a troubled domestic and continental season, with several players expected to be heading for the exit door.

Roberto Firmino is confirmed to be leaving when his contract expires at the end of the season, while James Milner, Naby Keita, Adrian and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could leave in similar circumstances.

Arthur's nightmare loan spell from Juventus will not be converted into a permanent move either, and midfield reinforcements will likely be priority number one for the Merseyside giants.

The Reds dropped to eighth in the table courtesy of a 4-1 loss to Manchester City on Saturday, and Klopp's side return to action away to 11th-placed Chelsea on Tuesday evening. body check tags ::
