Manchester City still hope to persuade Kyle Walker to extend his contract at the club despite strong interest from Bayern Munich.

The 33-year-old is facing an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium after he recently entered the final year of his contract.

A recent report claims that Walker has reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich to join the German giants this summer.

Walker is understood to have been offered a two-year contract by Bayern with the option of a one-year extension, while Man City are offering the experienced defender just a 12-month extension to his current deal.

The England international is believed to be leaning towards an exit from the Citizens in search of a fresh challenge and assurances over regular first-team football.

Walker made 39 appearances for Man City during their historic treble-winning campaign in 2022-23, but he was left out of a number of games during the second half of last season, most notably the Champions League final triumph over Inter Milan.

The right-back lost his regular place at a time when Pep Guardiola changed his formation shortly after the World Cup break, with the Catalan boss opting to switch from a four-man defence to a back three with an inverted full-back.

Guardiola claimed earlier this year that Walker "cannot play" in the inverted full-back role that John Stones starred in during the second half of last season.

Walker, naturally a right-back, eventually played numerous times on the right side of a back three for City last season and he still remains part of Guardiola's plans going forward.

According to the Daily Mail, Man City want to keep Walker and tie him down to a new contract to fend off interest from both Bayern and Juventus, the latter of whom have recently entered the race for his signature.

Since moving to the Etihad from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, Walker has made a total of 254 appearances for Man City across all tournaments, chipping in with six goals and 18 assists.

The 76-cap England international has won 14 trophies during his time on the blue side of Manchester, lifting five Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, two FA Cups, two Community Shields and one Champions League.

Should Walker decide to end his six-year stay at the Etihad, Man City are understood to have identified Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard as their primary summer target to replace the Englishman.

Pavard is said to be looking to leave the Allianz Arena this summer and Bayern are believed to be open to selling the 27-year-old as they look to raise funds to put towards their pursuit of Harry Kane. body check tags ::
