Manchester United will be without the services of central defender Victor Lindelof for Saturday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old has been a regular for the Red Devils this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions, contributing one goal and one assist in the process.

Lindelof was an unused substitute against Newcastle United last weekend but was back in the side against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The Sweden international was replaced at the interval of the fixture, though, and it has now been revealed that he will be absent for the visit of Bournemouth on Saturday.

There is a returning centre-back for Man United this weekend, with Raphael Varane available for selection, having overcome the back problem that forced him to miss out against Chelsea.

"United have been boosted by the return of Raphael Varane, who is fit to play again after missing our Blues victory due to a sore back. The France international trained at Carrington on Thursday, with our cameras in attendance," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Ten Hag has, however, lost the services of Victor Lindelof, who is out for Saturday's game. Our number two left the field at half-time on Wednesday, and was replaced by Sergio Reguilon, with Luke Shaw shifting inside to centre-back."

Jonny Evans also made his return from a muscular problem as a late substitute against Chelsea, and head coach Erik ten Hag must now decide whether to move Shaw into the middle once again, or bring in Evans, but a starting role for Varane as the left-sided centre-back is unlikely.

Shaw has impressed for the Red Devils since his return from a hamstring problem, and Ten Hag detailed the importance of the England international during his pre-match press conference.

"Start with the last: I think a lot, he is a player others can build on, he gives belief and confidence to other players, teammates around him feel comfortable," he told reporters.

"He will deal with different situations, he will set up, take the initiative, create and strengthen absolutely the team. His presence, his personality, but the skillset with physicality, so strong, technical very good, he is a high-profile player and we are happy he is back on."

Man United have also been boosted by the return of Amad Diallo to training, with the Ivory Coast international overcoming the knee injury that he suffered during pre-season.

However, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen remain unavailable for selection, while Mason Mount remains a doubt despite recently returning to training. body check tags ::
