Manchester United are reportedly still in the running to sign Matthijs de Ligt from under Juventus's noses as they have an agreement in place with Ajax.

De Ligt is one of the most in-demand players in European football after shining for a youthful Ajax side over the past couple of seasons.

Juventus are considered the favourites to sign the centre-back, though the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and United have also been tipped to make a move.

As talks with Juve drag on, French journalist Julien Laurens claims that United are well placed to nab De Ligt if his move to the Allianz Stadium falls through.

The Red Devils have supposedly agreed to match Ajax's valuation, with £75m expected to be enough to sign him, whereas Juventus are playing hardball.
