Manchester United have reportedly edged closer to securing the long-term future of goalkeeper David de Gea.

Despite several months of negotiations, the Spain international has entered his ninth campaign at United with less than a year remaining on his contract.

There was a suggestion earlier this month that Juventus were ready to make a commitment to signing the 28-year-old on a free transfer next summer.

However, The Guardian claims that United have finally agreed terms with De Gea after indicating that they are willing to hand the stopper a significant pay-rise.

The report suggests that the former Atletico Madrid man will move into the same wage bracket as midfielder Paul Pogba when the deal is made official.

De Gea has made 366 appearances for United in all competitions.
