Mason Greenwood reportedly has 'no great desire' to return to Manchester United this summer, as the forward believes that the club 'could have supported him better'.

Man United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has seemingly opened the door for Greenwood to potentially be brought back into the Red Devils squad for the 2024-25 campaign.

The Englishman is currently on loan at Getafe, and he has been in strong form for the Spanish outfit this season, scoring seven goals and registering five assists in 25 appearances in all competitions.

There remains ongoing speculation surrounding his future, with Barcelona said to be keen to sign him on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile, Getafe president Angel Torres has said that Greenwood wants to stay "another year" with his club, having settled well since his loan switch last summer.

According to The Athletic, despite Ratcliffe opening the door on a return, Greenwood would be 'reluctant to accept' a move back to Old Trafford this summer.

The report claims that the forward 'has no great desire' to play for Man United again and feels that the club should have provided him with more support over his case.

In January 2022, following accusations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The Man United academy product was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was dropped last February.

Man United are believed to have made the decision to bring Greenwood back into their squad last summer before being forced into a U-turn due to the reaction of the public.

Greenwood has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 matches for Man United in all competitions, and he was regarded as one of the best young players in world football before his arrest.

Atletico Madrid are also said to be keeping a close eye on the situation in the event that Greenwood becomes available on a permanent basis this summer.

The forward, who has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2025, has scored five times and registered five assists in 22 La Liga appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Greenwood managed two goals in three Copa del Rey matches before Getafe's elimination to Sevilla in the last-16 stage of the competition. body check tags ::
