Liverpool have reportedly made progress in their pursuit to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The Reds will need to strengthen in the middle of the park this summer, with three midfielders set to depart at the end of the season.

Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner will all leave the club when their respective contracts expire in June.

The Merseyside club have already begun to work on signing replacements, with Mac Allister identified as a potential summer target.

Liverpool are believed to be leading the race to sign the Argentina international, who is also attracting interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are making progress in talks with Brighton over a summer transfer for the World Cup winner.

Mac Allister only signed a new deal with Brighton in October, which is set to run until June 2025 with an option of a further year.

However, Mac Allister allegedly has a release clause that becomes active this summer, and Brighton are resigned to losing one of their prized assets.

The report claims that Liverpool and Brighton are currently negotiating the best way to structure the transfer fee.

The Argentine is seemingly keen to move on to fresh pastures this summer with a recent report claiming that he is desperate to play Champions League football.

Mac Allister has featured regularly in the Brighton side this season, registering 12 goals and two assists in 37 competitive appearances.

In total, the midfielder has featured in 109 games for the South-coast side, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists.

Brighton, who are sitting in sixth position, will be looking to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United when they play host to Southampton on Sunday. body check tags ::
